Details Day...

When you finally get told you have a ship, it is so exciting and it makes you so happy. But be aware that I can get cancelled at any time.

I got my details whilst I was at home waiting for them, so I knew what ship I was going on well before I went back into training to collect my paper work.

Details are announced at around midday and you have to go to a particular room at 12.15/12.30. You firstly get given a pack and told what ship your going to. It will also have your flying out dates and joining ship dates. (the dates are in american (MM/DD/YYYY) please don't get confused). There is so much paper work and  you will be taken through each piece one at a time. Everything is explained to you but don't hesitate to ask questions.

Whoever is talking to you will also talk through what you have to do when you leave the YMCA to when you get on your ship. They will explain everything from airports to hotels. If you don't understand airports then they will explain what to do in more detail for you.

You then run outside and take a photo as a group which Steiner like to put on their Facebook.

You will the try on your new uniforms and collect 2 sets of them to take with you.

After this you will given a name at the top of your pack and you have to see them before you leave as they need to sign you off to say you have everything. What you also get is 2 red envelopes, this is your medical results which you MUST not loose. If you don't have these then you can't get on your ship and if you loose them they could cost up to £1000 to get them replaced. Keep all important documentation in your hand luggage and with you at all times.

After you get your flight details check the website as with some you can look where your sitting (I have British Airways and I can change seats if In want to, but I got a window seat so I'm not) and how much luggage your allowed, as well as dimensions for cases.

I would also recommend if your staying in a hotel, look where it is from your airport and usually the airport will have a shuttle to lots of hotels for a cheap price. Then you will have to figure out how to get to the port the next day for your ship for 8am. My taxi cost is $135 which is around £85 which is alot.

That's the end of this post, I don't want to go into too much detail you will go through this and it will be so boring to read as its just mainly paperwork.

Thank you so much for reading

Training After Week 1...

After you have completed week 1 you will be going into week 2. For me this was the most exciting week as I was happy with what I was given and I enjoyed this week so much. For massage and elemis facial students your 'course' is only for a week. For the facial and body electricals your 'course' is 2 weeks and I don't think you get the weekend off.

Like last week you will have more exams but this retail exam is harder. For massage you only need to leanr body products, same with la, therapie and I think inothermie (not 100%) but for facials we had to lean all products and I'm so surprised I managed it. I found that at the YMCA there is so few distractions that all I did was revise.

You will also have more practical exams, for me it was a facial massage exam. In facials we learnt about 4 facials in a week. Your second week is very intense as there is so much to learn. Just make notes and practice, ask questions and become confident at them. The products you will be using are so amazing, and the facials are super relaxing (I fell asleep almost every time).

I can't say much about the 2nd week as its just learning new treatments. What I will say is you learn about spa tours in week one, whenever you learn a new treatment, write out a spa tour and learn it. I might upload a post with all my spa tours as examples.

After you complete your course you have 3 options:

  1. You learn a new course.
  2. You go into the retail class.
  3. You go into the branding class.

The retail class is where everyone who has completed their course is together and you practice lots of different things, from treatments, to selling to consultations. You may also learn extra treatments like:

  • Bamboo Massage
  • Face & Body Sensation
  • Thai Poltis
  • Colon Massage
  • Expert Touch
The branding class is if you have a ship as certain ships need branding. This is where you learn different treatments from brands such as Bliss. If you go into branding it's usually a good sign.

Details for ships come out every Thursday, but details can be given at any random day of the week.

There is no telling how long you will be at training for. My room mate went after 3 weeks and I went after 13 weeks. It just depends on how many people there is to place and what there is available. Even if there are loads of ships, if the trainers don't think the ships suit you (for example if you were a little bit shy, then a huge ship might not be ideal) then it's best to wait for the perfect ship.

I wasn't at training for 13 weeks. I went home to wait after my 4th week which they may offer you. If you do go home you have to be able to get to training for 24 hours notice.

Sorry there isnt much detail in today's post but there isn't too much I can say as I've only learnt facials not all the 'courses'.

Thanks so much for reading
